Ryan Rouse, the man accused of trying to assassinate President Donald Trump, will represent himself in the trial.
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump thanked the judge and jury and praised the Justice Department after Assassin Ryan Rouse committed a crime in attempting to kill Trump on one of Florida’s golf courses last year.
“I am extremely grateful for the justice given and the way that has been handled by (attorney general) Pam Bondy and (associate attorney general) Todd Blanche and everyone,” Trump told reporters on September 23 while attending the UN General Assembly in New York.
Rous, 59, was found guilty in federal court in Fort Pierce, Florida, for attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate. Twelve ju judges found him guilty of assaulting federal officials and several weapons violations. The case went to trial before Trump’s appointee, U.S. District Court Judge Irene Cannon.
“You can’t make that happen. You have nothing to do with me, but even the president and people – you can’t allow it to happen. So justice is served and we’re seeing what happens,” Trump said. “But I am very grateful to the judges and the ju judges and everyone about it. It was treated very professionally. It’s a great honor.”
Routh’s conviction came for over a year after Routh sat outside the fence of Trump International Golf Club with his rifle with a rifle and waited more than 11 hours for Trump to step into his vision. Prosecutors said the plot was stopped by a US Secret Service agent who discovered and fired Routh, causing him to drop his rifle and escape. Rous was arrested less than an hour later.
The incident came about a month after Trump’s ears were grazing by bullets in a separate, almost classification attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024.
Trump congratulated Bondi and Blanche on his conviction in a social post on the social media app shortly after the verdict, thanking Secret Service agents for discovering Routh running from the location of the crime.
“This was an evil man with evil intentions and they caught him,” Trump wrote. “A huge moment for American justice!
After the verdict was read, Ruth appeared to try and stab him in the neck with a pen before multiple US exs tackle him and drag him out of court.
