  • A documentary about Melania Trump offers a glimpse into her life at Mar-a-Lago.
  • The former first lady describes her Florida mansion as a “refuge from the outside world.”
  • The film includes a meeting at Mar-a-Lago where the Trumps discussed security for the inauguration.

First lady Melania Trump’s documentary showed a rare glimpse of her at home: all three of them.

In fact, Mar-a-Lago received special treatment in the movie. The film’s opening scene shows President Trump’s high heels clicking into a waiting car as he moves over the gentle waves of the ocean, a yellow-striped umbrella, and the Cuban roof tiles of his mansion before leaving the mansion for New York.

After meeting with fashion and event designers, she returns to Florida to discuss efforts to help children with her husband and Queen Rania of Jordan.

Trump appeared a little less as the first lady, and the film didn’t give much insight into where she spends most of her time.

But she shared a little more detail about her Florida home, also known as the “Winter White House.” Here’s how Mar-a-Lago appears in the movie.

Melania Trump calls Mar-a-Lago a ‘refuge from the outside world’

The first lady rarely appears in the real world and, in contrast to her husband, is regularly photographed jet-setting between her mansions in Washington, D.C., and Palm Beach, Florida. This makes it difficult to keep track of where she spends most of her time and what she considers home.

She called Mar-a-Lago “a haven from the outside world.” She recalled that her elusive son Barron Trump grew up there taking swimming lessons, golf lessons and tennis lessons.

But she didn’t call New York City or Washington, D.C.’s Mar-a-Lago or Trump Tower home. Instead, she said, “I have this idea of home inside of me,” and that “Mar-a-Lago is more than home.”

“Are you safe?” Meeting held inside a trailer at Mar-a-Lago

One of the president’s most profound interactions in the film took place at Mar-a-Lago, where the two met about security and logistics for Inauguration Day. The then-president-elect wondered aloud why the College Football Playoff national championship game was broadcast on Inauguration Day.

“We have to compete for a championship? How did that happen?” Trump said, adding, “I think they did it on purpose.”

The first lady, who attended the meeting, also asked if she was safe, a moment that was also featured in the movie’s trailer. When discussing the parade route, she alluded to what happened the previous year, apparently related to the attempt on Donald Trump’s life.

Barron Trump also has his first on-camera moment in the movie as his family leaves Mar-a-Lago on their way to the inauguration.
