Powerball jackpot reaches $1 billion

With a $1 billion Powerball jackpot at stake, anonymity may be a relief for some.
As the prize pool continues to grow ahead of the drawing on Saturday, December 13th, whether you’re an experienced lottery player or a novice, you may be wondering whether you can keep the news of your potential win a secret from the public.
The good news, at least for some, is that certain states allow winners to receive their prizes anonymously, allowing individuals to maintain some privacy while deciding what to do, who to tell, or not to say.
And the bad news for everyone else is that if you win a prize in one of the states where winners can choose to remain anonymous, you may never know who won the jackpot or where it came from. Nevertheless, lottery officials in these states will still announce whether a player has won or not.

The next Powerball drawing will be held on Saturday, December 13th at 10:59 PM ET.
Which states allow lottery winners to remain anonymous?
More than a dozen states allow winners to receive prizes anonymously, and in some places, such as Arizona and Virginia, the terms depend entirely on the amount won.
Michigan, Ohio, the Territory of Puerto Rico and other states have special anonymity provisions.
Only 10 states allow true anonymity, including Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, North Dakota, South Carolina, and Wyoming.

How to play Powerball
How to play Powerball is easy:
- Buy a $2 ticket wherever tickets are sold.
- Think about which six numbers you would choose.
- For Powerball, select five “white” numbers from 1 to 69 and one “red” number from 1 to 26.
Players can also add “Power Play,” a $1 feature that increases the winnings on all non-jackpot prizes. “Power Play” multipliers can increase your winnings by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 10x.
