Cheney has long been a prominent conservative figure, but she broke away from supporting Trump after the January 6, 2021, riot. He said he would vote for former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.

President Trump posted on Truth Social on November 4th, calling for an end to the filibuster, calling Jews “stupid” for voting for Zoran Mamdani in the New York City mayoral election, and bashing MSNBC host Joe Scarborough.

The White House has scheduled a press conference for 1 p.m., but lawmakers did not immediately respond to requests for comment. However, the White House lowered flags to half-staff, according to Poole’s report.

Who is Dick Cheney?

Cheney was a powerful and controversial vice president during the second Bush administration. He had a reputation as a hawk, and was a major driving force behind the Iraq War, drafting energy policy and pushing for expansion of executive power.

A Republican congressman from Wyoming and secretary of defense to President George H.W. Bush in the 1980s, Mr. Cheney’s first high-profile role in Washington was as deputy chief of staff and later White House chief of staff to President Gerald Ford.

“Dick was a calm and steady presence in the White House in the midst of great national challenges,” President Bush said in a statement. “I relied on his honest and straightforward advice, and he always gave me his best.”

Cheney is survived by his wife, Lynne, daughters Mary and Liz Cheney, and several grandchildren.
