Started in August by skincare companies about potential bacterial contamination, hand soap pre-call has expanded to over 30 products, including lotions and shampoos.

The North Bergen, New Jersey-based Dermalite Industry voluntarily recalls more than 30 products “from abundant attention” about the potential microbial contamination identified as the Burkholderia sepasia complex, according to a recent news release.

B. cepacia can lead to serious and life-threatening infections, particularly when used by immunosuppressed individuals or those participating in immunosuppressed individuals, the company said, adding that “infection can spread to the bloodstream and can lead to life-threatening sepsis.”

In healthy people with mild skin lesions, “product use can lead to local infections,” Dermarite said.

Dermarite first began recalls in August, and only included hand soap.
