One person was injured when two Delta regional jets collided while taking a taxi at LaGuardia Airport in New York on October 1, officials said.
The Port Authority in New York said in a statement to USA Today that outbound and inbound flights are operated by Delta subsidiaries and collided at 9:58pm local time.
One of the flights suffered a life-threatening injury and was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure,” the agency said.
Delta Air Lines said in a statement to USA Today that the aircraft is involved in “slow-speed collisions.”
“Delta will work with all relevant authorities to ensure that it happened when the safety of our customers and people comes before everyone else. We apologise to our customers for the experience,” the statement said.
No one was injured during the collision, Delta says.
Delta said no passengers were injured during the collision. The flight attendant reported minor injuries.
The flight attendant suffered knee and head injuries, according to the air traffic control voice from the incident.
Based on preliminary information, according to Delta, the wings of the departure jet collided with the fuselage of the arrival jet. The departing flight headed to Roanoke, Virginia, and the arrival flight came from Charlotte, North Carolina.
There were a total of 85 passengers on the two jets. They were exhausted on the taxiway and were sent back to the airport terminal by bus.
Delta said passengers were rebooked for the flight on October 2nd.
Laguardia Airport operations are not affected after a plane crashes into a taxiway
The Port Authority said the rest of the airport in Queens, New York, will not be affected.
According to Flightaware, no delays in arrival or departure on October 2nd have been reported.
