The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced an expanded recall of frozen vegetables amid the ongoing salmonella outbreak, which has 11 people become ill and four people hospitalized.

The Chetak LLC group first began a recall on multiple lots of frozen beans on July 16 after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) linked the product to the multi-state salmonella outbreak.

The recall was then expanded twice. Once for frozen vegetable products on August 22nd, once for one frozen vegetable product, and again on September 8th, the spread of the bean, fruit and vegetable mix will be covered.

According to an FDA notification, all affected products came from deep brands and were distributed nationwide through retailers and mail orders. An investigation is underway.

Which products are included in the recall?

Originally, the following products were recalled on July 16th:

  • Minnesota
  • New Jersey
  • Pennsylvania
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia
  • Washington

What if I have a recalled product?

Recalled products must be thrown away for a full refund or returned to the location of purchase.

Anyone who has purchased or received a recalled product should carefully clean and disinfect any surfaces or containers that may have been in contact with hot soapy water. If you suspect that you may have become ill as a result of eating contaminated foods, we recommend contacting the FDA with a medical professional.

Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning

Symptoms of Salmonella infection usually begin 6 hours to 6 days after engulfing the bacteria. According to the CDC, the most common symptoms are diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps.

While most healthy people can recover in 4-7 days without treatment, vulnerable people like children under the age of 5, adults over the age of 65, and weakened immune systems can experience more severe illnesses that require treatment or hospitalization.

If you see any of these more serious symptoms, the CDC recommends contacting your healthcare professional.

  • Diarrhea and fever above 102 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Diarrhea for more than 3 days that has not improved
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • There is a lot of vomiting, so it is impossible to control fluids
  • Signs of dehydration, such as not peeing much, dry mouth and throat, and dizziness when standing up
