David Letterman thinks America’s late-night TV world is in good hands, considering his ongoing feud with President Donald Trump.

The TV talk show icon visited “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and praised the host during the Dec. 9 episode. “Are people aware of the fact that you’re the leader of the resistance?” he said to Kimmel. “Regardless of party or political ideology, if the leader of the free world is a fool, then the leader of the free world should anticipate and consider all the ridicule he will receive.”

President Trump celebrated the end of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and called for the firing of the “Late Night with Seth Meyers” host.

In September, ABC suspended “Jimmy Kimmel Live” after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr threatened regulatory action against ABC and Disney after Kimmel joked about President Trump’s response to the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Trump then suggested that Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon should be the next TV hosts.

“I’m so glad to be out of this mess, because people like you, people like Stephen, people like Seth are doing a great job of defending our democracy,” Letterman said.

Letterman also congratulated Kimmel on extending his one-year contract for ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” for another year.

What vices did Kimmel learn from Letterman?

Letterman is also an influence on Kimmel outside of comedy. “When I was about 15 years old, I started smoking cigars because I saw you smoking them,” Kimmel revealed during the conversation.

Letterman responded, “Well done, America!”

“Next Guest Needs No Introduction” Season 6 Guest

Letterman appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to promote Season 6 of his Netflix series “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman.”

The season will premiere on December 16th and consist of three episodes with guest appearances by Michael B. Jordan, Mr. Beast (Jimmy Donaldson), and Jason Bateman.
