An Australian journalist covering the 2026 Winter Olympics in Livigno has publicly apologized for slurring his speech and appearing drunk on camera during a live broadcast.
Before appearing on Channel Nine’s Today show on Wednesday, February 18, Danica Mason said she had “completely misjudged” the effects of her drinking, explaining the following day: “It was cold, the altitude and not having dinner probably didn’t help either.”
Mr. Mason went off-topic while discussing the location of the Olympic Games on air. “Literally, the coffee prices here are actually okay,” she said. “What we need to get used to is the price of coffee in the United States.
“I don’t know much about iguanas, but where are they going?”
Her studio host tried to deflect the comments, telling viewers that “cold weather can affect the way people speak.”
On Thursday’s broadcast, Mason took “full responsibility” for his actions and apologized live. “This is not the standard I set for myself, so I am truly sorry to say this and I also thank everyone for the messages I have received.”
