WASHINGTON – Sen. Cory Booker of D-New Jersey raised record amounts in the second quarter of the year following his 25-hour marathon bed speech in April, his campaign announced.
According to the Senator’s Campaign Committee, Booker raised $10 million in April, May and June. The haul includes funds for his Senate Campaign account and his Joint Funding Committee’s Booker Victory Fund.
Booker’s campaign manager, Adam Silverstein, said in a statement that the funds “reflect the energy and hunger” of Booker’s leadership style, and that “will continue to build the campaign infrastructure needed to win in 2026 and support Democrats who run tickets up and down.”
On April 1, Booker gave the longest recorded floor speech in Senate history, breaking records recorded in 1957 by separatist Senator Strom Thurmond. Booker was protesting President Donald Trump’s policies.
In the face of unprecedented changes that took place in the first months of Trump’s second term as president, Booker said he decided to take on the marathon speech because Democrats had the “responsibility” to “do something different.”
Booker ran for president in 2019. His name came to mind as a potential candidate for the president’s democratic nomination in 2028.
Other potential Democratic presidential candidates, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut, have reported similar amounts of procurement, according to NBC News, which first reported Booker’s cash haul. The second quarter fundraising report is on July 15th.
