University of Alabama falls to 10th place in College Football Playoff rankings
Alabama fell six spots in the College Football Playoff rankings after losing at home to Oklahoma.
The third of six College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday, November 18th, and there were significant changes in the top 10.
Then no. 11 Oklahoma’s Big Upset In Week 12, the No. 4 team played against No. 4 Alabama, pushing the Sooners into the top 10, and if the Sooners won, they would have a strong chance of winning the CFP. Georgia also dominated Texas at home, so Texas is no longer eligible for the CFP for the time being. While the win was big for Oklahoma, it was a disaster for Alabama, which dropped six spots in the latest rankings.
The Week 13 schedule also includes several games that could impact the CFP spot between the final 12 teams, and no game is bigger than No. 7 Oregon State hosting No. 15 USC in a Big Ten matchup that could once again shake up the top 12 heading into next week’s announcement.

Tulane is No. 24, giving the Green Wave the highest ranking among non-Power 4 programs in the CFP rankings.
Tulane is the new favorite to earn the CFP’s fifth and final conference championship car bid.
The Longhorns suffered their biggest stumble in the rankings, dropping from 10th to 17th after a 35-10 loss to Georgia in Week 12.
Texas is currently out of the picture and will require some disruption to get back into the CFP race.
Miami and Notre Dame both have two losses, but Miami defeated the Fighting Irish in Week 1. Miami is ranked 13th and Notre Dame is ranked 9th.
New CFP Chair Hunter Yurachek explained the committee’s process during the announcement.
“When you watch Leche (Davis) in Miami, I think you can see the loss of these two teams,” Yurachek said on the broadcast. “Miami lost to two unranked teams. Notre Dame lost to two teams ranked in the top 13. I’ve never really compared those two teams. I’ve never been in a similar comparable pool before.
“But Miami is creeping into the range where they would be compared to Notre Dame if something happened over there.”
The CFP committee was not pleased with Alabama’s loss to Oklahoma, dropping the Crimson Tide to 10th place in the rankings, behind Notre Dame (9th place), which had two losses, and Oklahoma (8th place), which had two losses.
It’s interesting that the committee favors Notre Dame over Alabama, considering the Crimson Tide has won four games this season, including a road win over Georgia. The Fighting Irish’s best win came at home against USC, who is still in the hunt for the CFP.
Always east.
