US LBM Coaches Poll: Texas A&M recommended for 2nd place
USA TODAY Sports’ Paul Myerberg explains the latest US LBM coaches poll and why Texas A&M is in second place ahead of Indiana.
College football’s Week 11 schedule almost caused chaos. But in the end, the teams near the top of the U.S. LBM Coaches Poll somehow managed to survive, leaving the top seven unchanged.
Ohio State didn’t have any close calls as the Buckeyes handled the game well against Purdue, easily retaining the No. 1 spot with 59 of 63 first-place votes. Indiana, which perennially ran away from Penn State, remains No. 2, but the Hoosiers weren’t picked No. 1 in this week’s poll. After the win at Missouri State, No. 3 Texas A&M took the remaining four No. 1 prospects. Alabama and Georgia remain in the top five, with Oregon surviving on a last-minute field goal against Iowa to stay in sixth place. Mississippi State remains in seventh place.
Texas Tech moved up to No. 8 on Brigham Young’s decisive takedown, dropping the Cougars to a tie with Georgia Tech for No. 12. Notre Dame also moved up to ninth place, passing Navy. Oklahoma and Texas are tied for points in the top 10 heading into the SEC’s big road test next week against Alabama and Georgia, respectively.

Utah took advantage of a tough weekend for teams in the ACC ranks to move up four spots to No. 15. Virginia fell eight spots to 19th place, and Louisville fell six spots to 21st place.
But it wasn’t all bad for the conference. Pittsburgh entered the poll at No. 23 for the first time this season. James Madison, ranked 25th, also joined the rankings.
Missouri holds steady at No. 24 in the polls after dropping from No. 7, while Iowa and Memphis have dropped.
