US LBM Coach Poll: Pennsylvania Falls after Oregon Loss
USA Today Sports ‘Paul Myerberg analyzes the latest US LBM coach polls and the harsh losses to Pennsylvania in Oregon.
- Ohio State continues to be the top-ranked team in the US LBM coaches’ poll after five weeks of victory.
- Oregon jumped to second place after a double victory over Pennsylvania.
- Florida dropped 11 positions to 19th, while Southern California dropped completely from the top 25.
As expected, the US LBM coach polls look very different from the results of the fifth week. But one of the few things that remained unchanged is that it remains in Ohio.
The Buckeyes, which previously handled the first road test of the season in undefeated Washington, were voted first this week with 58 of the 65 panelists. Oregon is second in the second place after a double-time victory at Pennsylvania. The duck claimed six of the remaining seven No. 1 nods, the last one went to Miami (Florida), the third that enjoyed an open date this week.
Mississippi will make a big leap from 11th to 4th place after beating LSU. Texas A&M will climb four places that close out the top five after beating Auburn.
Top 25: After week 5, LBM coach polls will be completed
Penn State suffered the loss of the smallest position in the vote and fell to No. 6 to go ahead of No. 7 Texas. No. 8 Oklahoma and No. 9 Indiana rise, and Georgia slides to No. 10.
A little strangely enough, the Bulldogs were ahead of Alabama in the 11th place, giving the Bulldog their first loss. However, the Crimson Tide has moved to five locations and is back in playoff photos. Iowa will be in 12th place, with LSU falling to No. 13.
Florida will drop 11 positions to 19th after a Friday night defeat at Virginia, but will remain in the rankings. Southern California isn’t that lucky and fell out of the top 25 after a loss at No. 22 Illinois. TCU was another dropout of the week as Arizona No. 24 and Utah No. 25 returned to the polls.
