SpongeBob fans, are you ready? Not to visit Bikini Bottom, but to visit the new popcorn bucket that’s being talked about ahead of the release of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Major theater chains such as AMC Theaters, Regal Cinemas and Cinemark Theaters are selling popcorn buckets for the upcoming “SpongeBob SquarePants” movie, including one designed to look like a boat and one that doubles as a cup and popcorn tub.

Theaters such as Cinemark have already begun selling merchandise ahead of the film’s Dec. 19 release, but AMC Theaters will not sell merchandise until Thursday, Dec. 18, according to the company’s website.

Carolina Cinemas, a locally owned movie theater in North Carolina, shared a video on TikTok of employees filling boat-shaped popcorn buckets with water, and mentioned in the comments how they were considering purchasing the buckets.

TikToker @serenityangel09trc wrote in the comments, “I don’t need it…I don’t need it…I definitely don’t need it.” “need!!!!”

The popcorn bucket comes after other companies added popular SpongeBob merchandise and themed meals to their menus and product lines, including Burger King’s SpongeBob Krabby Whopper and Mr. Krab’s Cheese Bacon Tots (coin-shaped tots filled with cheese, bacon bits and fries in a treasure chest).

Crocs is also getting in on the SpongeBob movie frenzy, selling SpongeBob-inspired shoes such as the Squidward Clog, which features the face of the clarinet-playing character on olive green clogs. The shoe also includes a blue and black strap and boat anchor.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: The Search for Squarepants opens in U.S. theaters on Friday, December 19th. Paramount has launched a website to help movie fans find showtimes and watch videos about the movie.

Here’s what we know about The SpongeBob Movie: Find Squarepants merchandise and how to get it.

Cinemark collection includes SpongeBob Cup, Treasure Chest Popcorn Trough

Cinemark has already started selling the products, which start at $9.50 and include several items, including cups featuring SpongeBob and Patrick Star figurines dressed as pirates.

The Cinemark collection includes:

  • Fun-sized combo (16 oz Spongebob cup and 64 oz popcorn tub) – $9.50
  • SpongeBob, Patrick, and Mr. Crab Plush – $12.95
  • SpongeBob or Patrick Shippers (22 oz cup with medium fountain drink or ICEE) – $16.95
  • Treasure Chest Popcorn Bucket (includes XL popcorn and free same-day refills) – $18.95
  • Blanket – $23.50

According to the company’s web page dedicated to new movies, Regal Cinemas is offering SpongeBob Popcorn Buckets and Drinking Cups, Popcorn Buckets and SpongeBob Collector’s Combos. USA TODAY contacted Regal Cinemas on Dec. 12 for pricing and other information, but did not receive a response.

A video of Regal Cinemas’ popcorn bucket and drink combo was posted on social media. One TikToker shared a video of a Regal Cinemas employee filling a bathtub in a seat at the SpongeBob Theater. The cup and tub combination features a drink, popcorn, and the shape of the title character sitting in a theater seat wearing a pirate hat. Drinks are in the center, and the chairs open at the back to allow workers to fill them with salty and buttery snacks.

What do you think of AMC’s SpongeBob movie merchandise?

AMC Theater merchandise from the new movie includes a pirate-inspired cup featuring SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star, a popcorn bucket shaped like SpongeBob’s boat, and a figure of the title character standing deep behind a ship.

Plush toys, popcorn buckets filled with mysterious stuffed animals, and cups featuring SpongeBob, Squidward and Gary the Snail toppers are also on sale.

Additionally, AMC Theaters is offering moviegoers a special SpongeBob combo that includes regular popcorn, a drink, and a mystery stuffed animal.

USA TODAY contacted AMC Theaters on Dec. 12 for pricing and other information, but did not receive a response.
