Chaz Bono gets married, Cher’s son marries Shara Blue Mathes

Date:

The moment Chaz Bono walked down the aisle was a full circle moment.

The actor and son of pop icon Cher married his longtime partner Shara Blue Mathes in a glitzy Hollywood ceremony earlier this month, according to People magazine.

Bono, 57, is the only son of Cher and her late singer ex-husband Sonny Bono.

“I first met Shara over 40 years ago when she was a teenager,” Bono told People magazine. “I think it’s safe to say that not many grooms end up marrying the woman they kissed for the first time after all these years.”

People reported that Bono’s mother, Cher, also attended the March 8 ceremony at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. According to the newspaper, the Grammy-winning superstar “watched from the front row as couples took a romantic dip at the end of a black aisle lined with bright red candles and moody flower arrangements.”

USA TODAY has reached out to Cher’s representatives for comment.

As part of the wedding’s “Hollywood Glam Formal” theme, Bono wore a black and white tuxedo, complete with a purple calla lily boutonniere. Meanwhile, Matthes wore a long-sleeved lace dress for her bridal look.

Bono said of Mathes, “She makes me feel complete knowing that she will always be by my side as my partner, my best friend, and the love of my life.” “No matter what life throws at us, we will always be safer and stronger together. … And we are at home.”

According to People magazine, Bono and Mathes met as teenagers attending the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute. The two reunited several years later and rekindled their romance in January 2017.

Bono’s marital bliss comes in the midst of Cher’s family rifts.

Cher’s other son, Elijah Blue Allman, was arrested twice in three days for incidents on February 27th and March 1st. Allman, the son of the late Allman Brothers Band singer Gregg Allman, was first charged with simple assault, trespassing, criminal intimidation and disorderly conduct for an alleged trespassing incident at St. Paul’s School in New Hampshire.

Although he was later released on personal recognizance bail, Allman was rearrested on March 1 for allegedly breaking into a couple’s home in Windham, New Hampshire. He was charged with robbery, two counts of criminal mischief, and breach of bail.
