Zoran Mamdani, Erica Kirk and ‘KPop Demon Hunter’ were among the top trending searches in 2025, Google’s Search Year revealed.
Charlie Kirk, 31, who was assassinated while speaking to students at Utah Valley University on September 10, has become the top trending search in the United States for 2025, according to data released by Google on Thursday, December 4.
Lovebus took third place on the list of trending topics, followed closely by Netflix’s blockbuster KPop Demon Hunters. The monster dolls, designed by Hong Kong-born illustrator Kashin Lung in 2015, are based on Norse mythology, according to parent company Popmart. The toys have big heads, sharp teeth, big eyes, and wear fluffy pajamas and a variety of bright costumes.
The longest government shutdown in the country’s history, President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act and tariffs were also among the trending topics this year.
Google’s data was taken from January 1st to November 25th, and the company says, “The 2025 Year in Search is a collection of the moments, people, topics, events, and places that captured the world’s attention this year.”
The technology company clarified that the compiled list is trending topics and should not be confused with the most searched topics. “They tend to change little from year to year.”
“By looking at the top trending searches, we identify topics that have spiked in 2025, meaning they are unique to this year compared to last year,” Google explained.
