  • EV charging is about to get much faster in the U.S., according to ChargePoint’s CEO and president.
  • The EV Charging Network has partnered with Eaton to connect chargers to the DC power grid for faster and more efficient charging sessions.

Charging your electric vehicle is about to get even faster thanks to ChargePoint’s next-generation direct current (DC) fast charging architecture.

ChargePoint is one of America’s largest electric vehicle charging networks. The company has powered more than 9 billion miles and has plans to expand. According to the CEO, the EV charging network is not only expanding, but also getting faster.

ChargePoint will make EV charging incredibly fast in 2026

ChargePoint CEO and President Rick Wilmer calls the upcoming DC fast-charging architecture “a major innovation.” In an exclusive interview, Wilmer explained that the new 600kW (kilowatt) charging station will make converting energy to charge EVs more efficient and cost-effective. ChargePoint has partnered with global power management company Eaton to connect chargers to the DC grid.

Wilmer said this “significantly reduces the size of the charger relative to the amount of power it delivers,” and the increased efficiency saves drivers and charging station hosts money on electricity bills. These 600 kW charging stations will be installed at ChargePoint Express Grid locations and can charge passenger EVs in just 10 minutes.

ChargePoint plans to begin delivering charging station components in the second half of 2026. Faster EV charging is just around the corner as the company expands its network and develops stations capable of more powerful electric vehicle charging sessions.

How fast will EV chargers be in 2025?

Level 1 and Level 2 chargers remain the most common types of electric vehicle chargers in America. DC fast chargers are less common, but can charge an EV from 10% to 80% in less than an hour, depending on the wattage of the charger.

ChargePoint’s Express Grid charger significantly reduces DC charging time due to its high wattage (600 kwh) and efficiency. While high wattage chargers are not recommended for regular use due to battery issues, having access to fast charging from time to time can be a game changer for EV owners.

What ChargePoint’s Express Grid means for American EVs

ChargePoint’s Express Grid shows that EV charging infrastructure is improving despite the current administration’s lack of support for clean energy. Thanks to technological advancements from companies like ChargePoint, EV chargers are now faster and more efficient.

While the EV charging experience may not yet be simple for the general public, companies are paving the way for cheaper, easier, and more convenient EV charging sessions.

In China, drivers can take advantage of BYD Auto’s megawatt charging. These charging systems provide 1,000 kilowatts of power at 1,000 volts. Megawatt charging gives you about 250 miles of driving range in 5 minutes.

The U.S. may soon catch China’s EV partial charging time record of 5 minutes. As EV nameplates become more prevalent in the U.S., charging improvements may not be needed as much for rapid adoption.
