World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz will play for the third consecutive Wimbledon title after beating American Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals of four sets.
Alcaraz scored 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) wins in a match that lasted 2 hours and 49 minutes.
Alcaraz showed a dominant serve throughout the contest, earning 88% of his first serve points, allowing Fritz to break him only once during the match. The Americans’ break came at the right time and allowed him to win a second set, but the Spaniards responded by earning 94% of his service points in the vital third set of the match.
“This is my dream – I step into these beautiful courts and play tennis at the most beautiful tournaments in the world,” Alcaraz told reporters. “Not only is it that I’m trying to think about in every tournament, but why am I trying to bring joy to the court?”
Fritz fought hard in the fourth set, earning multiple set points for the tiebreaker after winning a mini break through Alcaraz. Nevertheless, the 22-year-old surprised them, once again covering control of the match and fighting to win a set, with the Americans denying his second major final appearance.
Currently, Alcaraz aims to become the 17th man to win at least three Wimbledon singles titles in the 148-year history of the event. The 22-year-old will play Jannik Sinner in the final.
Alkaraz beat Djokovic in the Wimbledon finals in back-to-back seasons, but boasts a 3-5 career record against the Serbian star. The five major winners have achieved more consistent success against the sinner, a career record of 8-4 against him, and upset the top seed talent in the final at the 2025 French Open.
Meanwhile, Fritz’s defeat continues the unknown drought of the American winner in the men’s single draw at Wimbledon. Pete Sampler was the last American to beat Wimbledon. He did so in 2000, winning a four-set victory over Australia’s Patrick Rafter.
Since then, the Americans have only played three Grand Slam Finals on the Lawn, but the last one was Andy Roddick in 2009. The Americans have not won majors since Roddick’s victory at the US Open in 2003.
