The Cambodian Prime Minister said Thursday that he nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize and praised the “extraordinary politicians” who halted the Cambodia-Thai border conflict.
Hun Mane made an announcement late Thursday in a Facebook post, accompanied by a letter saying he was sent to Norwegian Nobel Committee, intervened as an example of “an exceptional outcome in eliminating escalating tensions in some of the world’s most volatile regions.”
“This timely intervention that avoided a potentially catastrophic conflict is essential to preventing the major loss of life and paved the way for peace,” the Cambodian leader wrote in a letter.
Reuters reported that both Thai and Cambodia leaders called out to both Thai and Cambodia leaders, breaking the deadlock in an effort to end some of the heaviest fights between their neighbours these days.
That led to a ceasefire negotiated in Malaysia on July 28th. The two countries agreed on Thursday to ensure a rekindled hostilities and allow observers in Southeast Asia.
In total, 43 people were killed, and five days of conflict began with fires of small arms, which quickly escalated to heavy artillery and rocket fires, and then quickly escalated the deployment of Thailand several hours after the F-16 fighter jets for airstrikes.
The nomination was expected after the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister announced the plan last week, but we would like to thank Trump for the 19% tariff on Cambodia’s imports.
Pakistan said in June that it would recommend Trump to the Nobel Peace Prize for work to help resolve the conflict with India, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last month that he nominated Trump for the award.
