Burger King is expanding its workforce by hiring about 60,000 new employees this year.

Burger King began a nationwide hiring campaign on April 2 to hire up to 60,000 new employees from entry-level to management positions to its approximately 6,500 U.S. restaurants, according to a news release.

A news release said the search followed “a series of brand milestones that have repositioned Burger King restaurants as destinations for both guests and employees.”

“To maintain this momentum, we need great people who are passionate, hard-working and genuinely friendly,” Burger King President Tom Curtis said in a statement. “A warm welcome goes a long way, and our team members who bring that energy every day are at the heart of what makes the Burger King experience so special.”

USA TODAY reached out to Burger King for details on the annual number of in-store employees, but as of April 7th, the company had not received a response.

How much is Burger King’s hourly wage?

As of March 30, the average hourly wage for Burger King team members in the U.S. is $13.76, according to Indeed. According to the job site, team members in Boston earn the highest hourly wage at $16.91, while team members in Columbus, Ohio, come in second at $14.87.

The average hourly wage for Burger King managers in the U.S. was $16.38 as of February 27, according to Indeed. The job site said the cities with the highest salaries for Burger King managers were Chicago ($121,727 per year), Los Angeles ($120,269 per year) and Atlanta ($116,386 per year).

Burger King recently revamped its Whopper.

Notably, the burger chain revamped its iconic Whopper earlier this year, offering a “higher-quality, better-tasting bun” and “better-tasting mayonnaise,” all in a “box that allows you to serve it to your guests right out of the kitchen.”

The change, the first for Whopper in a decade, comes after Curtis asked customers in February for feedback about their experience at the chain.
