Utah residents have reason to celebrate after news uncovered that the state’s first Buc-EE is expected to open in Springville, about 50 miles south of Salt Lake City. The news comes less than two months after reports that the Texas-based travel center was exploring Meridian, Idaho, as a possible location.

A highly racial convenience store and gas stop, Springville City Council agreed to a potential partnership to build the first location in Utah on September 2, with plans to build 74,000 square feet of gas and convenience stores on undeveloped land, said in a press release on September 3.

“We look forward to welcoming you to the Buc-EE community and the great states of Utah,” Springville Mayor Matt Packard said in a statement. “We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship for both the community and Buc-EE.”

Packard added: “It was a joy to work with Buc-Ee.”

However, the final document has not yet been signed. The Daily Herald reported that he cited Packard. He states:

According to a press release, Buc-Ee did not provide any official comment on the development, but Stan Beard, the company’s director of real estate and development, said he was excited to open its first store in Springville.

“It’s been a while,” Beard said. “But Springville is the kind of community we thrive, and our partnership will be bigger than we think either of us would be. We are delighted to be in Utah.

The new Utah location will include a 74,000-square-foot travel centre with 120 fueling stations, multiple EV chargers and 200 full-time employees.

When will Buquet open in Utah?

Customers will have to wait for the store to open. Officials estimate that the project will take just two years to complete given the land is undeveloped, the press release said.

Several media outlets, including the Daily Herald, Salt Lake Tribune and Kutv, reported that the company was about nine months to a year away from the intrusion, according to Beard. Once construction begins, the store is expected to open in 15-18 months, with a total timeline of around two and a half years.

The city will refund the cost of curb-to-curb new roads to 50% of Buc-EE, Springville John Penrod’s assistant city administrator and city lawyers will refund sewer and water infrastructure upgrades to $625,000 for Buc-EE, according to KUTV.

Future intersection signals will also be the city’s responsibility, Penrod said, according to KUTV.

Buc-EE continues to expand its national footprint

Buc-EE is a travel centre known for its long lines of gas pumps, large toilets and beaver themed products, and was founded in Texas in 1982 by Arch “Beaver” Aplin III, according to Buc-EE’s website. Over the past 40 years, Aplin has led the opening of more than 50 locations, beginning in Texas, then expanding south in the Midwest, and is now heading west.

Shoppers recently celebrated the grand opening of Virginia’s first Buc-EE location, which opened on Mount Crawford on June 30th. The location opened a day before another new store in Brunswick on Georgia’s southeast coast.

Other states with Buc-EE locations include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina and Tennessee.
