At least two people were killed and eight others were injured in the Dec. 13 mass shooting at Brown University. Law enforcement is still searching for the suspect.
Providence Police Deputy Chief Tim O’Hara told the media at a news conference that the gunman was known to be male and was wearing all black clothing.
O’Hara and Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said law enforcement is actively searching for the suspect, who exited the Barth and Hawley engineering building onto Hope Street.

How did the Brown University shooter get into the building?
O’Hara said it is unclear how the shooter suspect entered the Barth and Hawley Engineering Building at 184 Hope St., but it is known that he exited the building onto Hope Street.
Is there only one shooter?
Law enforcement officials told the media that the only information they have at this time is that there is only one shooter. However, Mr Smiley warned at the beginning of the press conference that the situation is evolving and could evolve further.
What should I do if I might know something about the Brown University shooting suspect?
Smiley urged anyone who knows anything about the shooter or the shooting to call 911, especially if they are a student or “adult” on Brown University’s campus.
Anyone who has security cameras near the Barth and Hawley building or on Hope Street, including residents and businesses, should review their camera footage to see if anything was captured before or after the shooting, officials said.
Was the suspect in custody?
Smiley said there was initially incorrect information that the shooter was in custody.
He said the confusion was caused by the fact that he had detained someone beforehand. However, that person was not the shooter and was released.
The shooter is not in custody.
This is a developing story.
