Brian Coberger, a man accused of killing four University of Idaho students in 2022, has accepted a plea deal in a case that doesn’t spare him from the death penalty, Idaho politicians and Fox News reported.

Kohberger, 30, is charged with the murder of 21-year-old Madison Morgen. Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20; Ethan Chapin, 20. Four people were stabbed to death on November 13, 2022 at a rental house near the University of Idaho campus.

Koberger was arrested in December 2022 after the town of Moscow ended up killings and shortages of suspects for weeks. He previously pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

According to ABC News, citing a letter informing the victim’s family of the plea, Kohberger agreed to plead guilty to all counts of the murders of four students. ABC News reported that Kohberger agreed to four consecutive life sentences and waived his right to appeal.

According to ABC News, the letter said prosecutors expect Kohberger to be sentenced in late July if a guilty plea is entered at the July 2 hearing. His trial was expected to begin on August 18th.

“This resolution is our sincere attempt to seek justice for your family,” the letter reported by ABC News.

Officials at the ADA County Court in Boise did not respond to USA Today’s information request.

The brutal murder of a student in November 2022 terrified the residents of Moscow, a quiet university town that had not reported murders in five years, attracting the attention of the public. Investigators worked to deal with murder scenes and connect the evidence trajectory while family, friends, schools and communities were grieving.

A few weeks after the Nov. 12 murder, authorities arrested and charged Coberger in Pennsylvania. At the time, 28 years old was a doctoral student in criminal justice at Washington State University, surpassing state lineages less than 10 miles from Moscow.

Who is Brian Coberger?

At the time of his arrest in December 2022, public records listed the address of Coberger’s home as a residence in Albrightville, Pennsylvania.

He received his associate degree in psychology from Northampton Community College in Pennsylvania in 2018, the school previously confirmed with USA Today. Kohberger also attended Desales University in Allentown, Pennsylvania, earning his bachelor’s degree in 2020 and completed his graduate studies in June, stated in a statement.

According to the school’s online initiation program, he graduated with a master’s degree in criminal justice.

Kohberger used Reddit to study criminal psychology

A Reddit user named Bryan Kohberger, who identified himself as a student investigator, posted to prison and invited users to participate in a research project to understand “how emotional and psychological traits affect decision-making when they commit crimes,” creating a sub-Reddits for excons.

According to the post, the study attempted to understand the story behind the users’ latest crimes, but was approved by the Desales University Institutional Review Board.

The anonymous survey included the following questions: “Why did you choose that victim or target over others?” “What was the first move you made to achieve your goal?” “Have you done anything else before you left?”

After a reported plea bargain, the victim’s family: “We are furious”

The victims – Chapin, Carnodor, Morgen and Goncarves – all suffered multiple stab wounds. Chapin was Carnordle’s boyfriend. Two other women at home were surviving at the time.

In response to the legal agreement, the Goncalves family said on Facebook: “That’s true! We’re furious in Idaho. They’ve failed us. Give us time. This was very unexpected. We appreciate all your love and support.”
