Billy Bob Thornton’s big oil drama is even more flammable in season 2
“Landman” cameo: Jerry Jones encourages John Hamm to spend his family time
Jerry Jones urges Monty Miller (John Ham) to work with his family on “Landman.” Sadly, Monty didn’t accomplish that throughout the finale.
- Sam Elliott joins the cast of “Landman” in Season 2 and reunites with Billy Bob Thornton.
- Demi Moore’s character Kami plays a more prominent role in the season 1 finale after the death of her husband Monty (John Ham).
- After reuniting with Tommy, his ex-wife Angela (Ali Later) continues to burn in colour.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Billy Bob Thornton hit Garsher in November playing Tommy Norris, the big oil crisis manager for Hardrive in “Landman.” Paramount+ says that nearly 15 million people have watched the series within four weeks of its debut.
The second-floor hierarchical oil drama of “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan ended season one with on-screen heartache and the death of charismatic M-Tex oil CEO Monty Miller (Jon Hamm). Hamm finishes his run, and Thornton (70) harnesses the star power reinforcements for season 2 (premiere on November 16th), as these exclusive First Look Photos show.
Western legend Sam Elliot joins the cast as a character called TL, while Demi Moore and Andy Garcia play a bigger role in season 2.
Elliot, 81, is already burning the epic trails of Sheridan universe as Shea Brennan, the grizzly wagon train leader in the 2021 prequel, “1883,” the magnificent trails of Sheridan universe. Thornton and Elliott share credits in “1883” and in the 1993 western film “The Tombstone.”
“Sam and I are back and he’s my long-time hero,” Thornton tells USA Today during his visit to the “Landman” set.
Thornton recalls how he commutes to Elliott’s “grandstones” and his co-star Bill Paxton commutes. “And at the end of the day we opened our beer-filled ice breasts, all of us had it and then we went to our hotel room.”
Sheridan raps details of Elliott’s “Landman” character. But Monty’s death guarantees updated drama at every level, from Cutthroat’s boardroom to the West Texas rig, where Tommy’s son Cooper (Jacob Lofland) began as an entry-level worker with great ambitions.
The fallout clashes with the mourning cami (Moore) and forces a quick transition to legacy as a husband’s company guardian and board member. In season 2, social people rise to business challenges. Character Ark Thornton says that he has always been part of Sheridan’s plan.
“Taylor mapped it,” says Thornton. “Last season, Demi was essentially the wife of a big man. There was no much to do. Taylor always knew she wasn’t short on, but (instead) he knew there was a plan that was the whole time.”
Tommy also embraced the job of the company president, following the promotion of unnecessary work with the death of his longtime friend Monty. It’s a different world for a capable fixer, managing everything on the ground, from oil violations to cartel threats. Don’t expect Tommy to pull up his hanging wrangler jeans or stop wrangler.
“There’s something about that fixer’s job that fuels him. The president’s is an additional pressure that Tommy really didn’t want because he certainly didn’t expect,” Thornton says. “But I’m there and I care enough about the company to keep it up for my old peers.”
Tommy’s balancing act involves navigating an uneasy relationship with the attractive and dangerous cartel King Ping Garino (Andy Garcia). Gallino saved Tommy, who was gas-soaked from the cartel execution in the season finale, but quickly turned his own fever on by proposing a business alliance.
Ainsley is tied to college in “Landman” season 2
Filterless daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) heads to college, where the modest Texas Ranch Style House Tommy House shares it with M-Tex lawyer Nathan (Colm Feore) and engineer roommate Dale (James Jordan).
The ex-wife Angela (Ali Later), who moved in Season 1, is reunited and continues to bring an emotional recharge to the house.
“Angela throws these dinner parties, where I’m going to say something that inevitably makes her extra crazy,” says Thornton. “That’s what makes those scenes so much more interesting. After having dinner overnight, no one tuned it out.”
