Hardee’s closes dozens of stores in eight states
Hardee’s is closing multiple stores in eight states, citing financial issues with its franchisees. ARC Burger is facing a lawsuit over missed payments.
Darden Restaurants announced in a Feb. 3 news release that it will be closing its Bahama Breeze chain.
The Caribbean-themed restaurant has 28 locations in the U.S., half of which will be converted to other Darden brands, the company said. Darden also owns restaurants including Olive Garden, Yard House, Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Seasons 52.
“The company believes the conversion location is an excellent location that will benefit several brands within its portfolio,” Darden said in a release.
Darden was seeking “strategic alternatives,” including closing a third of Bahama Breeze stores and selling the brand in 2025.
The company has not disclosed what brand the converted stores will be reborn as. Most of the restaurants slated for conversion are in Florida, where the brand first opened in the ’90s.
The closing restaurants will cease operating on April 5, Darden said. Stores being converted to other brands will remain open until temporary closure is necessary to make the transition.
“Going forward, our primary focus will continue to be on supporting our team members, including placing as many members as possible in roles within Darden’s portfolio,” the company said in a release.
