Top elected officials in the state said at least two people were killed and 32 were injured after a riverside iron bridge collapsed in a popular tourist destination in western Maharashtra, India.

At least six people were rescued and hospitalized in dangerous conditions, Prime Minister Devendra Fadnavis wrote on social media platform X.

The incident occurred in the Kundamara area of ​​Pune district. Pune district has witnessed heavy rain in the past few days, giving the river a stable flow, reported the Press Trust of India.

It wasn’t raining when the bridge collapsed in an area where the Piknickers frequently visited.

Police said the National Disaster Response Force team and other search and recovery forces were in the rescue operation, the Press Trust reported.


Fadnavis said rescue operations on the scene have been accelerated.
