Arch Manning scored just over six points with his team when he crossed the goal line for a touchdown run last weekend.
The Texas sophomore, a five-yard touchdown run, pushed Sam Houston State’s Longhorns lead to 14-0 in the first quarter of a 55-0 victory, but then the former five-star elector stared at the end zone bare-cut linebacker Antavia Sfish, the most attention.
Fish wrapped his arms around him before crossing the finish line, working on Manning, leaving him on the ground next to the quarterback as he celebrated his touchdown.
This clip was played rounds on social media. The official Texas Football account boasts Manning’s “swagger” and “aura”, but after the game, Manning told reporters that his actions had won the rage of famous people.
He had not received a penalty for his sportsman-like behavior, but Manning said one of the game’s officials approached him and “teared my ass.” Manning added that for the same amount of caution the argument had received, he hadn’t said anything to the fishing.
Officials weren’t the only ones upset with Ballyhooed quarterback.
“It feels good to go back to the end zone. It’s probably a bit more there,” he said after the game, according to Horns247. “My mother was pretty upset about it. I’m a little immature, but I think the past few weeks have been some kind of complaint.”
Despite entering the season as one of his favourites to win the Heisman Trophy, Manning struggled early in his first full season as a starter for the Longhorns. In his first three games, Manning completed only 55.3% of his passes with 579 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. This included 170 yard passes in a season-opening loss to Ohio State and completing only 11 of his 25 passes in his third week victory over UTEP.
Against Sam Houston State, he was his best outing of his young season, adding 18 of 21 passes for 309 yards, three touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns without interceptions.
