Amazon’s Prime Invitee program officially ends this week

Date:

Amazon will have days left before officially ending its 16-year-old program, which allows members to share free shipping benefits.

Amazon quietly announced its Prime Invitee program cancellation on its customer service site in early September. The program ends on Wednesday, October 1st, at which point Prime Invitees will lose access to Prime streams.

The Prime Invitee program was launched in 2009, allowing customers to share Prime Merit with anyone, regardless of their primary address.

Amazon Family, an alternative to Amazon’s program, can only share the best delivery benefits with people who live in the same home as them.

However, Amazon said customers can share more with the Amazon family than before, while their ability to share delivery perks with anyone.

“Prime members can instead share a wide range of Prime Merits with the Amazon family, including exclusive deals and shopping events such as fast, free streaming, Prime Day, movies, series, live sports, and more, Prime Video, Amazon music and additional digital entertainment, free Grubhub+ membership, and fuel savings at participating ceremonies at 7,500 BP, AMOCO and AMPM Locations.

According to the e-commerce giant, the change will affect members who sign up for the Prime Invitee program between the 2009 and 2015 creation, when new members were stopped accepting.

Here’s what you need to know about migrating from the Prime Invitee program to the Amazon family:

Customers affected by the change will receive major transactions

Amazon said it will offer limited-time Prime transactions to those affected by the Prime Invitee Program cancellation. The agreement will allow users to win a 12-month Prime for $14.99 and will be available until December 31st.

I lost access to Prime Delivery. What can I do to fix it?

Those who lose access to Prime Delivery should ask their home Prime members to add them to the Amazon family. They can also sign up for their own major membership.

I would like to continue sharing Prime Shipping perks with others. What do I do now?

According to Amazon, those who want to share shipping benefits with their families must sign up for Prime and make other household members part of the Amazon family. With the Amazon Family, Prime members can share benefits with up to 40s, up to 4 children and 1 additional adult, added by April 7, 2025.

Prime members who want to share benefits with others must:

  • Accounts are linked through the Amazon Family
  • Share the same main address (the address you consider to be your home and where you spend most of your time))
  • I agree to share payment methods for household verification
  • Buy US billing address now for Prime Video Sharing

The company also said those who would like to share key profits to share payment methods. Family members can shop using their own payment methods.

According to Amazon, those who need to sign up for the Amazon family must:

  • Check out Amazon Prime membership
  • Find the “Share the Best Perks” section
  • Select “Manage Amazon Family”
  • Send an invitation to an Amazon Family Member

Family members can always leave Amazon’s family and rejoin it. However, those leaving Amazon’s families will have to wait 12 months before joining the new family, the company said.
