Starting next month, Prime members who want to share their delivery perks with other customers will need to live together at the same major address. This is a change from the company’s previous allowance.

Amazon’s previous Prime Invitee program allows customers to share only delivery benefits, and those benefits can be shared with anyone, regardless of where they live. Along with Amazon Family, Prime customers can share the benefits of shipping and digital, but only household members, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed to USA Today on Wednesday, September 3rd.

The changes are coming at the end of the month. Once the Invite Program is over, Prime members who want to share benefits and digital content with their families must become part of the Amazon family.

Amazon has announced on its customer service website that it has ended its Prime Invitee program.

Amazon has also sent notifications to customers announcing the changes. This prompted a round on social media. When asked why all shoppers didn’t receive notifications, an Amazon spokesperson said that between 2009 and 2015, when the program stopped accepting new members, customers who were registered with the Prime Invitee program were sent out.

The company said on its website, along with the Amazon family, Prime members can share benefits with one other adult.

“Prime members can instead share a wide range of Prime Merits with the Amazon family, including exclusive deals and shopping events such as fast, free streaming, Prime Day, movies, series, live sports, and more, Prime Video, Amazon music and additional digital entertainment, free Grubhub+ membership, and fuel savings at participating ceremonies at 7,500 BP, AMOCO and AMPM Locations.

The switch to home-only sharing comes after Amazon reported signing up for US$5.4 million over the 21 days leading up to Prime Day and the company’s four-day sales event in early July. The number of new customers was about 116,000 less than the previous year, 106,000 below the company’s target, Reuters reported.

Things you need to know about the changes.

When will the Prime Invitee program end?

According to Amazon, the program will end on October 1st. That’s when Prime invitees lose access to Prime Delivery.

What are the requirements for sharing the main benefits?

Amazon Prime members who want to share benefits with others must secure them.

  • Accounts are linked through the Amazon Family
  • Share the same main address (the address you consider to be your home and where you spend most of your time))
  • I agree to share payment methods for household verification
  • Buy US billing address now for Prime Video Sharing

What can I do if I lose access to Prime?

Prime invitees who lose access can ask Prime members in their home to add to their Amazon family or sign up for their own Prime membership ($14.99 per month for standard plans).

What can I access on the Amazon Family?

Amazon said on its website that Amazon Family is giving customers access.

  • Free distribution of prime-qualified items
  • Access to exclusive Prime Events and Deals
  • Prime Video with Ads
  • Prime Reading
  • Benefits of third parties like Grubhub
  • Digital content such as audiobooks, ebooks, games and more

Prime members can also share the benefits of Amazon Music Prime with one other adult in the Amazon family.

How do I sign up for the Amazon Family?

To sign up for the Amazon family, customers can:

  • Check out Amazon Prime membership
  • Find the “Share the Best Perks” section
  • Select “Manage Amazon Family”
  • Send an invitation to an Amazon Family Member

According to Amazon, Prime members and families must share payment methods to share their prime merits. Family members can purchase using their own payment methods.

Amazon added that families can leave and revive Amazon families at any time, but they will have to wait 12 months before joining another Amazon family.
