‘Jay Kelly’ Trailer Starring George Clooney as Iconic Movie Star
George Clooney plays an A-list movie star in the twilight of his career who realizes he’s putting work above life in the drama Jay Kelly.
For Adam Sandler, watching Saturday Night Live go on without him was heartbreaking.
The 59-year-old comedian reflected on his exit from SNL in 1995 during a recent conversation with Timothée Chalamet for Vanity Fair. Sandler revealed that after he was fired from the sketch show, it was painful to watch, at least for a while.
“When I left the show the first year, I couldn’t watch it,” he said. “I couldn’t watch it. It just breaks my heart. It’s like when you’re playing a sport and all of a sudden you leave and you watch the game go on and you think, ‘Oh, they didn’t need me.'” That breaks your heart a little bit. ”
Sandler appeared on SNL from 1990 to 1995. In the years following his exit, Sandler said he did not leave the role voluntarily and was fired. In 2019, he returned as host of “SNL” and sang a comedy song about being fired from the show.
“Between seasons, I heard some nasty rumors that I was getting fired. I tried calling Lorne Michaels and he never called me back,” he sings, before quickly adding, “You’re kidding. He called me.”
Sandler also sang, “I said I’m fired, I’m fired, I’m done with NBC.” “Then it grossed over $4 billion at the box office, so I guess you could say I won.”
On The Howard Stern Show in 2019, Sandler said he was “hurt” when he was fired from “SNL” because he “didn’t know what else to do,” but said it wasn’t creator Lorne Michaels’ decision.
“The head of NBC, I know he didn’t like our gang, me and (Chris) Farley,” Sandler said.
However, the “Grown Up” star reflected that if she hadn’t been fired, she “might not have quit” because she “is not good at saying goodbye.”
Sandler is garnering Oscar buzz for his role as the manager of George Clooney’s character in the new Netflix drama Jay Kelly. During a career conversation with Chalamet at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles last month, Chalamet told Sandler that he was one of the “best” actors alive and that he should “get the golden man.”
