Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz tell USA Today what it was like to go back to “back in action” after pausing due to Foxx’s health scare.
Two years after his stroke and subsequent coma, Jamie Foxx was emotionally grateful for taking his sister and daughters to the dark.
Daughter Colin Fox, 31, and 16-year-old Annelies Bishop, were in tears as they sat in the audience at the 2025 BET Awards, like their father. Annellies’ chin trembled as she looked up at her father on stage, accepting one of the ultimate iconic awards of the night.
“When I saw it in Memoriam, I was like, ‘Man, that might have been me.’ But I don’t know why I went through what I went through, but my second chance, I know I’m not going to refuse it,” Foxx, 57 said.
He thanked sister Deidre Dixon, a Hollywood hair and makeup artist, for “confirming that she cared for her brother” in the spring of 2023. He then cried out his eldest daughter.
“My beautiful daughter, Colin, I can’t say enough about you,” Fox said. “You’ve always betrayed everything, but when you had to drive it, you drove, and you made sure I was here.

Foxx’s lengthy speech also included a story about how his young daughter helped her recover in the hospital.
“Annelise Estelle Fox, my baby has big hair. She has something special, so she’s hiding under that hair. You’re so beautiful,” Fox said.
“When I was fighting for my life there, I have to say this. They said, “We’ll lose him because his vitals are bad.” And I didn’t want my 14 year old to see me that way, but Annellies listened to the conversation.
Fox said. “And when she played the guitar, my vitals (improvement). And I realized that God was on her guitar. The nurse ran and said, ‘What did they give him?” My daughter said, “I have him.”

What happened to Jamie Fox?
Foxx explained on 2024 Netflix Special that he experienced a “bad headache” on April 11, 2023. The moment he asked for aspirin, he lost consciousness.
During this coma state, Fox was taken to a doctor who administered a shot of cortisone and sent it home. A follow-up appointment with the doctor later revealed that FOXX had experienced a stroke caused by a brain hemorrhage. The exact cause of the stroke was not determined.

After about ten minutes of Foxx’s speech, musical legend and award presenter Stevie Wonder wandered into Foxx, who was standing on center stage, and encouraged him to start wrapping gently.
After Foxx pointed out that he was in a strange position behind him, he began walking around the microphone with his trophy extended (this wasn’t how strange it was on stage).
“How did he know?” Fox said. Wonder joked in the middle of the night that he ribbed FOXX to connect with him as a blind artist when he saw and edited Fox’s tribute package and portrayed Ray Charles in the Oscar-winning film “Ray.”
