Beans were the breakout star of 2025, according to Grubhub.

Insights released by the Chicago, Illinois-based company suggest that “Food Max Thing” has reached new heights this year, with an increase in orders that are nutritious, functional and visually pleasing.

Foodmaxxing is a “cultural shift designed to ensure that ordering meals, snacks, drinks, and groceries has maximum nutritional value, functional benefit, and, yes, a little added aesthetic appeal for your social feed,” Grubhub said.

From grocery orders to drinks, “foodmaxxing” appears everywhere in Grubhub’s 2025 Delivery Report, which collected data on Grubhub’s platform and analyzed millions of orders from January 1st to October 15th. According to Grubhub, “This was the year food had to prove itself.”

“People were looking for meals that did everything from boosting energy to supporting gut health and, of course, meeting protein goals,” Grubhub said of its report. “If the food didn’t do something for you, it wasn’t ordered.”

Let’s take a look at other foods Americans are obsessed with this year.

  • convenience store food – According to Grubhub, by 2024, purchases are unlikely to shift away from mainly carbonated drinks and instead become staples of “hot, protein-heavy grab-and-go foods” like taquitos, chicken rollers, and hot dogs.
  • electrolyte drink – More than 76,000 electrolyte drinks are delivered nationwide each month, “transforming hydration that tap water could never match into a curated routine for recovery, focus, and productivity,” says the Grubhub report.
