According to an employee’s statement in the arrest warrant affidavit, one of the prisoners threatened to stab the employee with a “shank,” a homemade knife.
New Orleans Prison employee arrested in connection with the escape of a detainee
Sterling Williams was arrested and accused of helping 10 inmates be released from New Orleans prisons, authorities said.
A maintenance worker at the New Orleans prison where 10 prisoners fled was arrested and charged with helping them get free, authorities said on May 20.
Sterling Williams, 33, admitted investigators upon request from one of the prisoners.
Instead of reporting to the prisoners, Williams followed the request that “convicts be allowed to succeed in their plans.”
In an affidavit for the arrest warrant, Williams said one of the prisoners who threatened to stab him with a “shank” – a homemade knife – if he did not follow instructions. Authorities said Williams is still responsible for not lending his assistance.
“If the inmate removed the sink in the cell and then cut the remaining pipes with water, the plan to escape would not have been successful,” the affidavit said.
Williams faces multiple charges during his tenure, including fraud, the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office said.
Six of the 10 prisoners are still relaxed on the fifth day of the hunt. The three inmates were recaptured by the end of the day, May 16th. According to Louisiana State Police, the fourth inmate, Gary Price, 21, was taken into custody in New Orleans on May 19th. Price will be jailed for murder, domestic abuse and aggravated assault and face new charges for escape.
“We won’t stop until we remove these criminals from the streets,” Gov. Jeff Landry said.
New Orleans prison escape: Three prisoners recaptured
Authorities are searching for prisoners who fled from a New Orleans prison after passing through a hole in the wall.
The inmate pulled the “flawed” cell door out of the truck around 1am on May 16th, tearing the toilet and sink unit before fleeing. She said security videos loaded up luggage, enlarged the wall and captured prisoners as they ran down a nearby highway.
The sheriff’s office said it appeared that the escape used a tool to cut the steel bar behind toilet and sink equipment. Several outlets report leaving a message of ock laughing on a wall with the words “Easy lol”.
Still prisoners are Corey Boyd, Leo Tate, Jermaine Donald, Derrick Groves, Renton Vanbren and Antoine Massey. 4 – Kakaku, Kendel Miles, Robert Moody and Doken Dennis are in custody.
