What is American cuisine? It’s a very long list.
Both farm-to-table and fast food hold a space in how America defines food. What is the origin story of authentic American cuisine?
Patriotic makeovers are underway at all Steak ‘n Shake restaurants.
The Indianapolis-based burger chain made the announcement on Saturday, Oct. 4, to “proudly support American values and traditions.”
“Every Steak ‘n Shake has earned the tallest and largest American flag allowed by local governments!” the fast food chain wrote on social media platform X.
Shortly after Steak ‘N Shake announced its decision, SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk rang in support of the restaurant chain in a post on social media platforms.
He wrote, “I’m ordering from there tomorrow!”
While some shared the enthusiasm for masks, others criticized the decision. One user commented, “What are American values and traditions? Fast food, beef, obesity?”
Steak ‘N Shake confirmed the flag plans in a statement to USA Today on Monday, October 6th.
Steak ‘n Shake, Beef Tallow, Cracker Barrel
Steak ‘n Shake made headlines earlier this year when it announced plans to cook its fries with beef. “I rfk’d the fries,” Steak n’ Shake Coudin Edwards told “Fox & Friends” in a February interview.
In August, the burger chain criticized Cracker Barrel’s decision to give its logo a facelift. It’s a decision that was ultimately reversed after a wave of public outcry, including from President Donald Trump.
“Legacy is what got Cracker Barrel this far, and the CEO wants to scrape it all away. At Steak ‘n Shake, we take pride in our history, family, and American values.”
“All are welcome,” the social media post added. “We will never sell ourselves away from the past in a cheap effort to gain the approval of trend seekers.”
