Princess Kate speaks publicly for the first time in two years
Duchess Kate will return to the podium at Britain’s Future Workforce Summit, giving her first speech in two years since her cancer diagnosis.
Duchess Kate has revealed that her relationship with alcohol has changed since she was diagnosed with cancer.
During a visit to a beer hall with Prince William on March 12, the 44-year-old Princess of Wales said she’s not much of a drinker.
“Since I was diagnosed, drinking is no longer a thing. I just have to be more conscious now,” the royal said in a video filmed at the event.
Duchess Kate revealed in March 2024 that she had been diagnosed with cancer and would undergo abdominal surgery followed by preventive chemotherapy. Her treatment ended in September, and in January 2025 she announced that her cancer was in remission.
alcohol and cancer risk
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drinking alcohol increases your risk of developing several types of cancer.
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends that adults not drink alcohol or drink it in moderation. This means no more than 2 drinks per day for men and no more than 1 drink per day for women.
“The recommended limit for women is lower because they are smaller and tend to break down alcohol more slowly,” the American Cancer Society explains.
Alcohol during and after cancer treatment
The CDC added that it’s important to ask your doctor if it’s safe to drink alcohol when taking prescription medications, including cancer treatments.
During cancer treatment, alcohol can interact with some medications and increase the risk of harmful side effects, according to the American Cancer Society.
“For people who have completed cancer treatment, it is unclear whether drinking alcohol after treatment increases the risk of cancer recurrence or secondary cancer, but it is possible,” the organization said.
