Those who received an additional securities income check before the end of the year will receive a second check in December, which is not a bonus.
Because it’s actually the January beneficiary check. According to the Social Security Administration’s calendar, January’s SSI payments are scheduled to be made on Wednesday, Dec. 31. SSI payments are typically issued on the first of the month, but if the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, such as in January (January 1 is New Year’s Day), payments will be issued earlier.
This month’s SSI payments were paid as usual on Monday, Dec. 1, so beneficiaries will receive their second check in December. According to the SSA calendar, a similar situation will occur again in July 2026, and since August 1st falls on a Saturday, beneficiaries will receive checks on July 1st and July 31st.
The checks scheduled to be paid on December 31 will for the first time reflect a 2.8% cost of living increase (COLA) in Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits for 2026.

What is Supplemental Securities Income or SSI?
Supplemental Security Income is also administered by the Social Security Administration and provides benefits to people with limited or no income or assets, people age 65 and older, and people who are blind or have a qualifying disability. According to the SSA website, children with eligible disabilities are eligible to receive SSI. Approximately 7.4 million Americans currently receive monthly SSI payments, the agency said.
Adults who earn more than $2,019 per month from work are generally not eligible for benefits. About one-third of SSI recipients also receive Social Security benefits.
