I hope you’re doing well! Welcome to the daily briefing. Let’s take a closer look at the news:

Nicole Fallato brings you the news you need to know on Thursdays. We’re talking about updates after a fired Michigan coach was arrested, a Nobel Prize winner in disguise, and a nanny who was afraid of her MAGA boss.

What you need to know about fired University of Michigan coach Sherrone Moore

Former Michigan State football coach Sherone Moore was arrested Wednesday after being fired from her position after the university found “credible evidence” that he had “an inappropriate relationship with an employee.”

Police responded to the incident at 4:10 p.m. ET on Wednesday, about 30 minutes before the state of Michigan announced Moore’s firing, “for the purpose of investigating an alleged assault.”

Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel released a statement Wednesday confirming that Biff Poggi has been named interim head football coach, effective immediately. Moore just completed his second season at the helm of the Wolverines after Jim Harbaugh left to coach the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers after the 2023 national championship season.

  • Red states turn negative toward Trump. President Donald Trump has lost support from voters in Ohio and Iowa, states considered Republican strongholds in the 2024 election, according to a new poll. Overall, President Trump’s approval rating is a net negative, but it has improved from last month’s steep drop.
  • Why are holiday tickets so expensive? It’s simple supply and demand, but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating. The cheapest day to get a Christmas ticket is December 24th, with tickets averaging $40 cheaper than at any other time during the season.
  • Officials are working on school bus safety. Every day, thousands of drivers in the United States illegally pass stopped school buses. The industry is increasingly turning to surveillance cameras and artificial intelligence to solve this problem.

Let’s take a look

Nobel laureate attends ceremony in disguise

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Colina Machado has surfaced in Norway’s capital after slipping through 10 military checkpoints in Venezuela wearing a wig and disguise to arrive on a fishing boat bound for the Caribbean island of Curaçao. From there, Machado took a private jet to Oslo to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. This is Machado’s first public appearance since January.

I want to talk to you about something.

This nanny is a citizen, but her brother was deported and her job became unbearable.

The mother of the baby she was caring for questioned her citizenship. The nanny knew about her boss’s policies even though she had never discussed them. She saw her family wearing red “Make America Great Again” hats in public and found pro-Trump flags hanging inside their home. The nanny told her boss that she needed a few days off to support her family while her brother was detained. She told USA TODAY what happened next.
