Marjorie Taylor Greene announces resignation from Congress
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced she is resigning from Congress following a months-long feud with President Trump and Republican leaders.
President Donald Trump is slamming CBS News over Lesley Stahl’s interview with Marjorie Taylor Greene.
In a Dec. 8 post on Truth Social, Trump addressed his friend-turned-foe Greene after a Georgia lawmaker accused her of threatening her family and said he had been “unkind” to her in recent weeks.
In his comments, Trump referenced a $16 million settlement in July with the station’s parent company, Paramount, over interviews he claimed were edited in favor of former Vice President Kamala Harris during last year’s election.
“They are no better than the old ownership that paid me millions of dollars for false reporting about me, your favorite president!” Trump wrote. “60 Minutes has actually gotten worse since they bought it. Well, it could be worse.”
Paramount Global and Skydance Media merged in August to create an independent entertainment company simply called Paramount. And in October, CBS News named Bari Weiss its new editor-in-chief and acquired her news site, Free Press. Since then, there has been a shuffle of talent. “CBS Evening News” anchors Maurice Dubois and John Dickerson are leaving the network, while the media world awaits the fate of “CBS Morning” star Gayle King.
President Trump called Greene, who announced her resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives on Nov. 22, a version of his new nickname, “Marjorie Traitor Greene,” which he mentioned in an interview with Stahl.
“The only reason Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown (stress turns green to brown!) is bad is because she was jilted by the President of the United States (of course, it’s not the first time she’s been jilted!),” President Trump wrote. “Too much work and not enough time. And her ideas are really terrible now. She reminds me of a rotten apple.”
Greene said in an interview on “60 Minutes” that after the president first framed her as a traitor, he threatened her son’s life and threatened to use a pipe bomb at her home. “The subject line of the direct death threat against my son was ‘Marjorie Traitor Greene,'” Green added.
She also claimed that Trump sent a “not very kind” response after she attempted to address the threat, calling the president’s response “extremely unkind” without providing specific details. Trump also said that Stahl is “washed up” and “hates Trump.”
Ms. Greene has long maintained, as she did on “60 Minutes,” that her rift with Mr. Trump stemmed from her dissatisfaction with Mr. Greene over his insistence on releasing Jeffrey Epstein’s files. His return to public office has sparked renewed interest in the relationship between wealthy Americans and Trump’s former friend, a convicted sex offender.
President Trump has publicly said that Greene began to rebel against him and House Republicans after she did not support his 2026 candidacy against Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia.
