Last week’s murder of Charlie Kirk on the University of Utah campus prompted public reflection on American civil discourse and political violence.
Mourners honor Charlie Kirk on Utah Candlelight vigil
The murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk led to vigils and gatherings across the country to honor him.
Congressional members, conservative leaders and members of Donald Trump’s administration are expected to attend a service and prayer vigil in honor of murderous conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Washington, Washington, on Sunday evening.
According to Arizona Senator Jake Hoffman, attendees will celebrate Kirk’s life and heritage and pray in service.
It was not immediately clear whether President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance would be present.
Kirk’s assassination on the University of Utah campus last week brought public remorse on American citizen discourse and political violence, and commentators and politicians across the ideological spectrum deceived the horrifying shooting.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox called inwards to everyone in the country, “Think about where we are and where we want to be.”
Republican Cox will appear on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday morning, with House Speaker Mike Johnson and R-Louisiana performing “Fox News Sunday” and CBS’s “Face the Nation.” Sen. John Curtis, a junior Republican Sen. from Utah, is a guest on ABC News “This Week.”
Kirk’s shooting could continue to shape the national dialogue in the coming days and weeks.
The public ceremony expected next weekend
Kirk’s public ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, September 21st in Arizona, according to Turning Point USA.
Kirk, a conservative advocacy group, said it co-founded it. In a post from X, he said the service will take place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
“Please join us in celebrating the incredible life and enduring legacy of American legend Charlie Kirk,” the organization said.
The service will be held at the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals home. Turning Point, which has around 800 university branches, is headquartered in Phoenix.
The doors will open at Kirk’s additional service ceremony at 8am Mountain Standard Time (MST), and the program is expected to start at 11am.
Kirk lived in Arizona with his wife Erica and two children.

Two days later, the suspected shooter was publicly identified by authorities as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who was taken into custody on Thursday night, September 11th, more than 24 hours after Kirk’s murder. According to Christopher Ballard of the Utah County Lawyer’s Office, prosecutors are expected to formally filed against Robinson when he appeared in his first court on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
