Marines were fired on a social media post. Charlie Kirk calls “racist” “pop” “racist” after the Pentagon tracks and said there was “zero tolerance” in a post from employees who praised the murder of the conservative icon.
“It is unacceptable for military personnel and civilians from the Department of War to celebrate or mock the assassination of fellow Americans,” Prime Minister Sean Parnell wrote to X:
“We’re tracking all of this very closely and we’ll deal with it right away,” Defence Secretary Pete Hegses said in X that he was “not quite accepting.”
Right-wing influencers are seeking military dismissal for Kirk’s post
After Kirk’s death, a shaking right-wing influencer in the Trump administration called on social media and asked his followers to blow up posts from military personnel and war office workers who criticize Kirk and celebrate his death.
The screenshots circulating in the conservative social media space appeared to show a post from a US Marine recruiter who read “another racist popped” along with Kirk’s image.
“Hello @petehegseth, could you please fire this madman?” I wrote Libs for Tiktok, an account run by right-wing influencer Chaya Raichik.
The US Marines confirmed that one of its members had been fired.
“We are aware of social media posts that do not match our core values,” Lt. Col. Joshua Benson, the lead Marine spokesman, said in a statement. “The Marine in question has been released from his recruitment obligation and this issue is currently under investigation.”
The fired Marine did not reply to requests for comment.
Another screenshot shared on the right-wing account appeared to show a Facebook post from a teacher in the military school system that branded Kirk as a “trash man.”
Major General Adam de Adult, working in Hegses’ office, working online for Monica’s “infantry,” reposting screenshots and writing, “If you talk like this woman, you should lose your job.”
“To openly celebrate anyone’s death (not to mention fellow Americans) is not harmless free speech. It’s corrosion from within,” writes Dona.
Pentagon spokesman Kingsley Wilson said D’Ortona is not a spokesman or advisor for the War Bureau.
Without mentioning Kirk by name, Dan Driscoll, John Phelan and Troy Meink (secretaries of the Army, Navy and Air Force) have also issued similarly verbal statements on tips that ServiceMember and employees who celebrating or ocking the assassination could be monitored and retaliated.
The Air Force said it was “knowing of inappropriate comments on recent political violence.”
“If the commander examines inappropriate behavior, it takes the necessary control and disciplinary action to hold service members accountable,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
The Navy and the Army said they had nothing to offer.
The State Department also warned on September 11 that foreigners praise Kirk’s assassination were “unwelcome” within the country. The Trump administration “doesn’t believe that the United States should grant visas to those whose existence in our country does not match the national security interests of the United States,” the agency told USA Today.
At a pentagonal ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the attack on September 11th, Hegses praised Kirk as “Christ Followers and American Patriots,” comparing it to police and firefighters who responded to 9/11.
“Well done, a good and faithful servant. A perfect heart, a transparent eye. He will never forget, like the people of 9/11,” he said.
