Conservative influencer Charlie Kirk was filmed at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah on September 10th.
Kirk, 31, was attacked during a question-and-answer session with a student. The university confirmed the shooting and said the suspected shooter was taken into custody at 1:15 MT.
President Donald Trump has issued a true society statement following the shooting report. “We all have to pray for Charlie Kirk, who was shot. A great man from top to bottom. God bless him!” Trump said.
FBI Director Kash Patel said he was “closely monitoring” the reported shootings.
“The agents will be on the scene soon, and the FBI is fully supportive of the ongoing response and investigation,” Patel said on social media.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox shared in X that “is explained by law enforcement following the violence directed at Charlie Kirk.” “Americans of all political persuasion must unite in condemning this act,” Cox said.
Utah Valley University was the latest stop on Kirk’s American comeback tour with his organization Turning Point USA. The event was scheduled for September 10th at 12pm local time. More than 6,800 people signed the petition prior to the event, demanding that the faculty block Kirk’s story.
“Allowing him to speak on our campus not only misrepresents the values we cherish, but also creates an environment in which divisive rhetoric can flourish,” the petition reads.
He is married to entrepreneur Erica Kirk, and the couple has two children. Their daughter was born in August 2022 and had a son in 2024.
“Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a really good guy and young father,” Vice President J.D. Vice President Vance said in a post on X.
Sen. John Curtis (R-Utah) said in a statement that he “heart goes out to Charlie, the attendees and their families.”
“We wish him safety and happiness to all. My team and I will continue to gather more information to become available and closely monitor the situation. I am grateful for the prompt response of our first responders working to ensure law enforcement and campus,” Curtis said.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat who interviewed Kirk on a recent podcast episode, weighed heavily compared to “despite, mean, and condemning” the attack.
“In the United States, political violence must be rejected in all forms,” Newsom writes.
