Experts warn that kratom, herbal supplements, like opioids, are addictive, as the FDA moves to limit its powerful compound 7-OH.
Two different recalls of Nunaturals’ sugar-free products have recently been given the second highest risk warning by the US Food and Drug Administration.
Nunaturals, Inc. began a voluntary recall of certain lots of organic pure stevia and pure monk fruit sweeteners on July 14th due to the labeling accident.
Products labeled organic pure stevia actually contained monk fruit powder, while products labeled as pure monk fruit sweetener contained stevia powder. Both recalls were given Class II risk warnings on August 1st.
Nunaturals recalled a total of 156 bottles consisting of 78 organic pure stevia bottles and 78 pure monk fruit sweeteners. Both products were sold and distributed to retailers across the country.
It is not immediately clear why it led to labeling errors or whether the recall had an impact on consumers. USA Today contacted the Eugene, Oregon-based company for comment.
Here’s what you need to know about Nunaturals recalls, including what to do with the affected products:
What is a Class II recall?
According to the FDA, Class II recalls indicate “where the probability of serious health adverse effects is far away when the use or exposure of a breached product can cause temporary or medically reversible adverse effects.”
