Ukraine unleashed more than 100 drones and clustered deep within Russia, calling it the most harmful attack ever.
Donald Trump is “disappointed” with Vladimir Putin
President Donald Trump told reporters that he was “disappointed” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, referring to the latest attacks on Ukraine.
- Ukraine said the strike against Russian strategic bombers caused $7 billion in damage.
- “It definitely had great results,” Zelensky said.
- “It’s impossible to recover these losses,” said River of the Prokremlin Telegram Channel.
WASHINGTON – Ukraine uses a horde of drones deeply smuggled into Russia to destroy dozens of enemy bombers in a stunning attack called Moscow’s Pearl Harbor. In the three years since Moscow invaded, it was Ukraine’s most harmful attack on Russia.
The Ukrainian intelligence agency said the coordinated strike on June 1 cost Russian troops $7 billion, destroying more than a third of Moscow’s strategic cruise missile carriers, including planes that could carry nuclear warheads.
Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelenki has called for a massive attack.
Pearl Harbor in Russia?
“It definitely had great results,” Zelensky said in a telegram. “Russia has caused very specific losses.
Kiev’s US ambassador, Oksana Markarova, called the attack “a highly successful Russian defensive operation against Russian aircraft.
Speaking at an AI event in Washington, Marcarova said it was “the best example of how innovation should work in defense.”
Ukraine is scheduled to meet with Russia for US-brokered peace negotiations the following day, and amid aggressive Russian advances on the battlefield, the ambitious June 1 attack showed that neither side has relied on a breakthrough in negotiations.
“I hope the reaction is the same as the US response to the attack on Pearl Harbor,” Russian war blogger Roman Alekhin wrote on Telegram comparing the 1941 Japanese attack on a U.S. base in Hawaii with the Ukrainian strike.
“It is impossible to recover these losses,” reported Rybar, the Prokremlin Telegram channel.
Ukraine’s “Spider Web”
The operation called “Spider’s Web” is a hallmark of the style of war in which Ukraine tries to undercut Russia’s larger army, seeking to flood the zone with cheaper, deadly drones.
However, the scope of this attack has set a new precedent. The explosive-bound drone was hidden inside the roof of a wooden shed and dropped into a truck on the outer edge of a Russian military base, Ukrainian security officials told Reuters.
The roof was then opened by a remote control, unleashing drones and crowding military bases.
The Ukrainian intelligence agency said 41 Russian aircraft, which ranged from the Finnish border to Siberia, had been attacked by four air bases. One targeted base in the Irkutsk region is over 2,600 miles from the frontline, and Ukraine collided with its furthest target during the conflict.
In a telegram message on June 1, Russia’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that the drone “was launched from an area close to the airfield, causing several aircraft to fire.”
The operation came the day after Russia launched a massive overnight attack on Ukraine using 472 drones and seven missiles.
Separately, on June 1, Ukraine crashed two highway bridges in the Russian region in the Russian region, killing seven people and injuring 69 people, according to Russian investigators.
The Air Force said three missiles and 372 drones had fallen.
When Trump loses patience with Russia, peace resumes
Ukraine launched an operation before Ukraine and Russia met for US-mediated negotiations in Istanbul to end the crushing conflict.
President Donald Trump pushed both sides against him for a ceasefire. Earlier this year, his focus was trained in Ukraine, causing tensions with Zelenskyy, who exploded at a militant oval office meeting in late February.
But in recent weeks, Trump has become even more unhappy with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s digging position in negotiations.
In his most severe criticism of Putin, Trump wrote that Putin “absolutely went crazy” after Russia killed dozens of people last weekend after launching a barrage of drones and missiles into a Ukrainian city.
“I had always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something happened to him. He was absolutely crazy!” Trump wrote on May 25th’s Truth Social.
A few days later, Trump said in his oval office that he was “very disappointed,” and “people were killed in the middle of what you call negotiations.”
