The pair reportedly tied the knot in a “secret” civil ceremony in rural Virginia, due to Celebrities’ testimony after being on TV.
First, they linked the documents in a political scandal that shook Washington and captivated the nation. And now, forty years later, two key players in the Iran/Contra controversy – Oliver North and his secretary, Fawn Hall – have joined the marriage.
The two tied the knot in a “secret” civil ceremony in rural Arlington County, Virginia.
North, a retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel, became a celebrity of a cause that aired in the 1980s as he rebelliously testified before Congress about the role of arms as a member of the National Security Council of President Ronald Reagan.
Hall became a star thanks to a marathon hearing known for her big hair and loyalty to her boss.
The two defended the action, including blocking paper shredders with criminal documents, as they were necessary to secure the release of American hostages in Lebanon and to restrain Soviet expansionism.
North was convicted of three felony charges in 1989 for arranging the illegal sale of arms to Iran and helping to divert revenues to fund a secret war against anti-communist rebels in Nicaragua.
After his conviction was invalidated, North failed to bid for a U.S. Senate seat in Virginia in 1994, becoming a prominent conservative political commentator. Hall, a part-time model who was confirmed immunity by the prosecutor, was no longer visible.
CNN reported that the marriage took place on August 27th and posted a copy of the wedding certificate north of the hall, which is said to be in the mid-’60s.
North’s longtime wife, Betsy, passed away shortly after her 56th wedding anniversary in late November last year. They have four children.
