Sarah Highland responds to Cynthia Eribo, hosting the 2025 Tony Awards
Sarah Highland, now on Broadway in the Great Gatsby, was told by Ralphie Aversa of USA Today that Cynthia Erivo is hosting Tonys this year.
It’s Broadway’s biggest night time after spending the biggest year at the box office in New York’s famous theatre district.
The 78th Annual Tony Awards, “Celebrating Excellence in the Theatre” is scheduled to take place this weekend at a star-studded gala in New York City. “Wicked” star Cynthia Eribo will return to New York City’s Radio City Music Hall to host this year’s show, taking over the hosting duties from Ariana DeVos, the Tony Award said in a news release.
The ceremony will celebrate the musical’s 10th anniversary, featuring appearances by major stars and performances from the biggest musical of the year, including a special tribute featuring the original cast of “Hamilton.”
This year’s Broadway season was super competitive and extraordinarily star-studded, routinely creating astronomical ticket prices and candid political fire brand headlines. “Maybe a Happy Ending”, “Death Is Her” and “Buena Vista Social Club” lead the nominations with 10 nods, including the best musicals. The strange but true “Dead Outlaw” and the World War II spy satire “operation “Mincemeat” concluded the best music categories.
Cole Escola’s mad cap “Ah, Mary!” was a major force with five nods, including Best Play, Best Actor (Escola) and Best Featured Actor (Conrad Riccamora). The unlikely hit comedy, telling Mary Todd Lincoln’s confused alternative history, captivated an audience of famous celebrities such as Dua Lipa, Jennifer Lopez, Meryl Streep, and Steven Spielberg.
There are things you need to know about the event, including who is playing, how to watch it live, and more, in anticipation of the Big Night.
