Rev. CL Ballard in a massive shooting in Montgomery, Alabama, Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Pastor Cl Ballard spoke about the overnight mass shooting at the Montgomery, Alabama on Sunday morning, October 5, 2025.
Multiple gunmen fired a large crowd in downtown Montgomery, Alabama, killing two people, including a teenager, and injuring others, officials said.
Montgomery Police Chief James Gravoys said the shootout erupted around 11:30pm on Saturday, October 4th, with multiple shooters involved in the incident. He said one of the victims was targeted and after the first shot was fired, several people began shooting in densely populated areas, beginning to surprise innocent bystanders.
According to Gravoys, a 17-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman were killed in the shooting. As of Sunday, October 5th, five victims had remained in hospital with life-threatening injuries. Seven people suffered life-threatening injuries.
The Grey Boys said seven of the victims were under the age of 20 and the youngest was 16.
“We endure all our resources,” he said, adding that the Montgomery Police Department is in contact with former US s-Service, the FBI and Alcohol Bureau, cigarettes, firearms and explosives.
“We don’t intend to stop until this case is resolved,” he said.
Montgomery Mayor Stephen L. Reid said “disagreements” spurred the shootout but did not provide additional details.
The shooting came when thousands of people gathered for the Alabama Fair, the Football Watch Party and Alabama State University’s return home. None of these events were involved in the weekend shooting, Reed said.
“We are praying for the victims of this atrocity. We are praying for their families, their friends. We are praying for our city,” Reid said. “Thousands of people were in the city this weekend, and it only took one or two to change the whole outcome.”
(This story was updated because an earlier version incorrectly stated the number of people injured in the shooting. The incident caused 12 people to be injured.)
